Super Snooper Blogfest

For this blogfest I have to describe a setting that gives my readers a sense of who a character from one of my books is. For more info about the blogfest, click on the picture above.

I've chosen to share a scene from "The Crystor" and the character is Octavion. This is from Kira's point of view as she enters his lair. Enjoy!

As he loosened his grip, she gave in and walked freely by his side. They’d only gone a few feet when they passed several large boulders, stopping at the cave entrance. His lair, she thought to herself. It made perfect sense, now that she knew about the curse that left him with the heart of a wild cat. Of course, he would call it that.
With the light of the sun shining through the opening, Kira could make out more of the cave’s contents. In addition to the bookshelves filled with dusty volumes of tattered papers, and his colorful display of bottles, there were old wooden crates, metal trunks, and textiles stacked along the back wall. Above them hung several weapons, most of which looked medieval. To the right, a blanket draped the wall, she assumed to cover an opening that went deeper into the cave.
She took all this in with a quick glance, before turning her full attention to the small bench where she’d sat the night Octavion had shown her the Crystor.

  1. Nice! You do a good job of setting the scene. I don't know if this guy is a wizard, but this cave is exactly what I would imagine a wizard's cave would look like.

  2. Oh, you're good. He's actually an alchemist and a powerful Jayde (which in his world is a wizard). I guess the scene works then, eh? Thanks for your comment.

  5. Great juxtaposition of the medieval weapons and curtains against the name: the lair. Terrific description! Thanks so much for participating!

  6. Nicely done and it made me want to know more about the characters and story. I was going to say shapeshifting warrior, but then someone else said wizard and that made sense too!

  7. Thanks everyone. And Mara, you're not that far off. He can transform into a 1/2 human 1/2 lion type character. Nothing ugly or scary, but fierce and deadly gorgeous. LOL And he's a Prince on top of all that. My kinda guy.

Lovely opening and descriptive passage. It all sounds a little like a Beauty & Beast theme. ;)

  17. One thing I always wished I could do when I read this was to rifle through his various bottles and stuff on shelves. He is such an eclectic mix of primal instinct and sophistry.
