Book Review - Fins

Fins
By Ashley L. Knight

Genre: YA Paranormal
Pages: 172
Content: Clean

Blurb:

Morgan James is visiting sunny Florida for two weeks before the school year begins. Right from the start, she realizes there's something strangely odd about the opulent world in which her mother and her new husband live and suddenly she is swept into another world - a world she could never have dreamed of. Follow Morgan's unbelievable journey in this magical tale of people who are something other than what they seem - OR, are they really people at all?

My Review:
I've been reading a lot of mermaid stories lately and found this one stood out among them. For one thing, the writing itself was actually good. It flowed well and I didn't find myself stumbling over a voice that seemed forced. Ashley Knight took great care to make sure I was pulled into her magical world from the first page and continued throughout the book to hold my interest. That's a huge plus for me because I get bored easily.

My favorite part of the book was when Morgan met Sam. I loved his character and was glad to see his part in bringing the story to it's peak at the end. Very happy to find out Morgan's true purpose in life and watch her embrace it. No spoiler here. You'll have to buy the book and read it yourself.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mermaids and even those who don't. It's not the typical merbook, by any means, so don't shy away if you're not drawn to them. Enjoy!

  3. What a great review! I really enjoyed this book, and I'm so excited for the other two. I've never read any other mermaid books. It makes wonder what a typical one is like because I thought this one was just beautiful.

  5. Good review. Seeing the fey world being explored by writers is exciting. It is moving beyond the Disney-ish books, and into quality reading. Thanks.
