Friendly Friday - Peggy Urry

So glad to be part of Friendly Friday. As Julie Andrews sings in 'The Sound of Music', "Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start." I have loved reading since I was a very young child. I still remember how excited I was to be able to read even the simplest 'Dick and Jane' all by myself - so much so that I read it 100 times. There are a few books that I've read multiple times, but that one definitely takes the cake for the one I've read the most times.

I grew up next door to my Aunt Jean and as you can see it is a beautiful place. We did not have television, but we had ten acres to run and work and play on. Books were my escape and I loved just about anything I could get my hands on (westerns and non-fiction did not make the list...) During the school year I had the school library, but during the summer, I had the bookmobile. I loved the bookmobile. It came every other Tuesday and we usually rode our bikes into town (it sounds so corny, but it's true) and checked out new books.

Maybe it was all the reading that created an active imagination or perhaps it's a gift from God. At any rate, I have been creating my own stories in my head since at least the second grade. I have been the director of some of these stories with my sisters and our Barbies or our Matchbox cars or even my mom's fancy nightgowns; but, until about ten years ago, I have never attempted to write any of them down. It's been an arduous but fun road. I have to remind myself that it's about progress, not about finishing in one week (or even one year). There are lots of other things I get to do: raise five kids, work with my husband, visit family in Utah, hang out with friends (bunco, my ANWA critique group, and date nights are my fav's), live life.... I love the beach, but hate the water; I love the mountains (we have mountains in Arizona, but it's just not the same as the Rockies!) but hate hiking; and I love peanut m&ms but hate peanut butter. I'm a quirky gal, so maybe I do fit into the writer's group! I have two books in the works - both are romances, one is a fantasy and the other is set during WWII. You can keep up with my progress by visiting and following my blog at http://peggyurry.blogspot.com/. Thanks Christine for letting me stop by!

***(from Christine) Thanks for being my guest today, Peggy. I love getting to know all my writing friends better.
