Dueling Divas

Volume 1 - Episode 4

Totally NOT cool. Ali has more followers than I do and she's been getting more comments. *whine* Come on guys. Show me the love, here. Ali won last week's dueling match--again.

Here's the question she flung my way this week:

If you were a muse, what kind of muse would you be?

In order to answer this question I had to do some research. My idea of a muse was either the voice that whispers in my head or Olivia Newton John in Xanadu, which I loved by the way. Call me crazy.
So, here are the different muses according to Greek Mythology.

Muse Domain Emblem
Calliope Epic poetry Writing tablet
Clio History Scrolls
Erato Lyric poetry Cithara (an ancient Greek musical instrument in the lyre family)
Euterpe Music Aulos (an ancient Greek musical instrument)
Melpomene Tragedy Tragic mask
Polyhymnia Choral poetry Veil
Terpsichore Dance Lyre
Thalia Comedy Comic mask
Urania Astronomy Globe and compass
I know what you're thinking. If I'm a writer, then I probably want to be the muse of something writerly, like Erato or Colliape, but that's not the case. As much as I love the written word, my first love is music. I play the guitar, but I'm not very good at it, so I tend to listen more than I perform. And I absolutely love to listen to music--all types.

I also love comedy, but tend to have a rather dry sense of humor and people often take me wrong. I get into trouble a lot. No big surprise there. So I think I should stay away from being Thalia.

So, after much consideration, I've decide that if I were a muse, I'd be Terpsichore. I love to dance. Really, really love to dance. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a body that doesn't cooperate as it should. But if I were skinny and fit, I'd dance every chance I got. From ballroom to Disco, to Country Western Line dancing. I love it all. Makes me feel free and gets my heart pumping.

I also love how every culture has it's own dance of celebration. From Hula and Belly dancing to the Feather dance of the American Indian. My favorite dance to watch is HIP HOP!  Here's a scene from "So You Think You Can Dance."  Excuse all the stuff before the actual dance, but it's worth it. This is such an emotional performance. I cry every time I watch it.  Enjoy!

Now, head on over to Ali's blog and see how she did in the challenge. And make sure you leave a comment here so I can win . . . pretty please.

  1. I love that you can connect with different muses. Having just one muse now seems sad and lonely.

  3. I've always been a HUGE fan of Olivia Newton John. Kismet, I tell you! I wanted to be her when I was 10, and used to roller skate (not blade) to her music on my driveway.

Funny. But I love that you'd be the dance muse. Very cool.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you would be the muse of dance. That's just awesome.
