I've been more than just a little down in the dumps lately. Not so much depressed, but stuck in a rut and filled with doubt as far as my writing goes. It doesn't help to see others' dreams coming true around you. Not that I'm not happy for them. I am. I just wonder when it will be my turn and if it's because I'm not good enough. I guess a lot of us feel the same way. Even those who have contracts and books out are still wondering if they're good enough. They cringe when it comes to reading reviews of their book and wonder if their low sales might be because of the economy, bad marketing or because . . . here it is again . . . they're NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
As I was driving home, this song by Katy Perry came on the radio. I've heard it a thousand times, but never really paid attention to the lyrics. I have to admit it picked me up a bit and so I thought I would share it with all of you. The lyrics are below.
And to all my writing buddies . . . hang in there. We ARE going to make it.
Fireworks - Katy Perry
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in
Do you ever feel already buried deep
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own
You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know
You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July
Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through
Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em goin "Oh, oh, oh!"
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Thanks, Christine. I needed this. I've been feeling the same way lately ... especially today where everything is rubbing me the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lyrics, Christine. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI've been pondering these feelings lately too Christine. All of us creative types have those moments of self-doubt and need to recharge the fire. Keep rocking.
ReplyDeleteI love this song too, Christine. And the video. Thing is, we all have moments of doubt. It's normal. As long as you pick yourself back up and ignite the flame again, it's all good.
ReplyDeleteShow 'em what you're worth. Because it's more than you know.
You're blog's cute, Christine. Btw, I miss you...
ReplyDelete*HUGS* I hope you feel better. It's tough to get all those rejections, yes. It's not an easy thing to endure because of all the soul you've poured into your book.
You're time WILL come. Hang in there. I know you'll do it. <3
